Many cities feed Chlorine Gas as the final disinfectant in their finished water. For many reasons, cities have decided to convert from Chlorine Gas to Chloramines in the finished water. Disinfection By Products (DBP) (Trihalomethanes and Haloacetic acids) at certain times of the year vary, and while cities have been in DBP compliance, the conversion to chloramines provides more consistent DBP levels throughout the year. In addition, the water systems’ largest users and cities buying water from them will receive more stable residuals.
